Registrations for acquisition of nationality

Introduction

This document shows the movements of Civil Register entries on changes in nationality (acquisition of Spanish nationality, preservation and loss), related to the profiles of the persons makingentries. Offering a perspective of the evolution of the events and acts of the Civil Register and of the persons who access it.

The results shown correspond to the registrations recorded in physical books with loose-leaf pages using the INFOREG system according to the registry model of the Civil Registry Law of 1957. Since the complete implementation of the registry model according to Law 20/2011, no more registrations will be made on physical books.

Methodology

1.Thematic:
Civil Registers.

2.Indicators:
- Birth registrations: birth annotations in the civilregisters for the period indicated.
- Death registrations: annotations of death in the civilregisters for the period indicated.
- Registrations of acquisition of Spanish nationality:annotations of acquisition of Spanish nationality in the civil registers forthe period indicated.
- Marriage entries: marriage entries in the civil registersfor the period indicated.
- Date: the date of registration of the entry is taken asthe reference date.

3.Geographical scope:
The information covers the whole of the national territory.Data is published on a national level, by Autonomous Community, province andmunicipality.

4.Application bodies:
Civil Registers.

5.Time coverage:
Information on a daily basis, with data available from 02/01/2019.

6.Data update:
Data are updated on a daily basis.

7.Normalization processes:
The geographical data is standardised in accordance with theTechnical Regulations of the CTEAJE (reference standard for IT tools in thefield of the Administration of Justice).

8.Adjustment:
No seasonal adjustment, decomposition of time series orsimilar methods are carried out.

9.Source:
The source of these data is the computer system (Inforeg) inwhich the registrations are made according to the model of the 1957 Law. It includes the data of registrations made in all Exclusive and Municipal Registries since 1950 and of about half of the Magistrates' Courts since their computerisation year in the period 2007-2012. There are currently around 4,000Justice of the Peace Courts that continue to carry out their registrations inBooks and are therefore not included in these statistics.
