Introduction

Information is presented on people who died from causes that require judicial intervention due to there being evidence of a violent external cause (accidental, suicidal, homicidal) or because they are suspected of criminality (sudden or unexpected death). This statistic provides data on mortality based on the basic cause of death and its distribution by different variables: sex, age, Institute of Legal and Forensic Medicine, month of death...

Methodology

1.Theme:
Sectoral information.

2.Indicators:
- Deaths: total deaths registered with judicial intervention in the indicated period.
- Daily deaths: average daily deaths with judicial intervention in the indicated period.
- Age: average age of those who died in the indicated period.
- Age – Standard deviation: standard deviation of the age of those who died in the indicated period.
- Sex: most frequent sex of the deceased and % of the total for the indicated period.
- Nationality: most frequent nationality of the person who has died. 
- Place of death: most frequent place of death and % of the total for the indicated period.

3.Geographic scope:
The information covers the whole national territory. Data at a national, autonomous region, province, judicial party and municipality levels are published. 

4.Enforcement Agencies:
Institute of Legal and Forensic Medicine (pathology service).

5.Seasonal coverage:
Information on a monthly basis, with data available since January 2021.

6.Data update:
The data is updated annually. 

7. Standardisation processes:
The standardisation of the geographic data is carried out according to the technical regulation of the CTEAJE (reference standard for computer tools in the field of the Administration of Justice).

8.Adjustment:
No seasonal adjustment, time series decomposition or similar methods are performed.

9.Source:
Data facilitated by the National Institute for Statistics (INE) from the information collected by the Institute of Legal and Forensic Medicine in the IML-WEB application.
